Platform fatigue.

Okay, so this is not something that most people will have to deal with, but I do.

Everybody that I speak to has a platform (read… WhatsApp, Messenger, Slack, Signal et al.) which they prefer to use. This means that I have to communicate on dozens of different platforms.

I can’t keep up!

I have a tiny mind, and I’ve no idea how we solve the splintering of communications.

When I was a kid, you had a postal address and a phone number. If you wanted to organise something, you had to arrange it in the real world; you had to agree to meet up at a place and a time and stick to it.

If you wanted to organise something with something in another continent, well that was bonkers and would take months.

The shift to where we are now is profound, but not really noticed,

Now you have Twitter, phone, email, website contact form, Slack, WhatsApp, Messenger, Signal, Telegram, Skype, Facetime and all the other things.

This fragmentation is a mess for me as I’ve never any idea what platform people prefer to contacted me on. I only know how I initially started to communicate with people, which is, in some cases, a place that they hardly ever go to now.

So, what’s the solution? I know that I don’t know, and I suspect that you don’t know either!
