I’ve been making podcasts for over a decade now, and have roughly 1,200 episodes recorded across a variety of shows.
I really love the format, but like everything, once you get into it, you realise that there’s loads of ways that the workflows and processes could be improved.
When you listen to a podcast, it all sounds so natural. But I can assure you that a lot of work went into getting that recording into your ears.
The podcaster had to:
- Decide to make the show and commit
- Buy the equipment needed to record and edit audio / video
- Find the time to make the podcast
- Create the brand and graphics
- Persuade guests (if they have them) to come on the show
- Get over their inner voice telling them that nobody wants to listen to them
- Think long and hard about the topic they focus upon during episode – perhaps do some background reseach
- Do the recording
- Do the editing
- Publish the episodes, and then start all over again
There’s a lot more than this, but you get the idea.
Most podcasters don’t succeed. They get three episodes in, realise that it’s a lot of hard work and then just stop. That’s a shame.
show.fm is an app built to help people make podcasting easier. It makes so many of the reasons to stop creating your podcast go away.
It’s brand new, years in the making, a joyous and terrifying journey I’m just starting upon, and is hopefully something that I’ll be working on years from now.
This could not have happened without the skill, care, knowledge and understanding of by partner in this venture, Dan Maby. 99% of this is because of him.
I’ve never been much good at marketing. I don’t have that instinct to sell things naturally, so bear that in mind if you watch the videos below. I’ll get better at this.
