Our closest neighbour

Here is an image.

Likely, you’re not that impressed.

Click on it and look towards the top. You’ll see a crescent moon and to the right of it, a dot.

Again, not that impressive.

The ground that you can see at the bottom is the surface of Mars. The image was taken by NASA’s Curiosity rover.

The moon is Mars’ moon. It’s called Phobos.

The dot… that tiny, insignificant dot… that’s Earth.

In case you can’t see it, here it is.

That dot it where every moment of your life, and every other life as far as we know, took place. Every creature that you’ve heard of, both living, dead or extinct, inhabited that dot.

Every thought, desire, action, lesson, love, hate, fear or drama took place on that dot.

That dot is how it’s seen from our closet neighbour. Imagine the way it will shrink into obscurity the further away you travel.

That’s such a breathtaking perspective.
