The way to make all conflicts worse

I have decided that all the world’s problems could be much worse. It goes without saying that the “I have decided” means that it’s true; for all people and all situations. Just accept it.

Any problem can be made worse thus… KerPlunk!

The game KerPluck. Shown here are the game box and the game itself. A plastic tower, some straws and marbles. The aim of the game is to pull out the straws and not allow the marbles to fall. The winner is the player with the least marbles at the end.

Pros:

  • Currently, it costs £19.99, which is going to annoy the heck out of people if they have to pay this money every-single-time they have a conflict to resolve.
  • There’s a slight chance of a tie / draw, which could make the problem escalate.
  • Someone who is shamelessly wrong has an equal chance of winning, which is like a powder keg to the injured parties.
  • Can get quite tense towards the end – the more tension, the better.

Cons:

  • Clear winner at the end. This is far from ideal, we need there to be no possible way to resolve the conflict.
  • Small learning curve. It would be much better if it was significantly harder to learn.
  • Allows for multiple players.
  • Comes in an ‘easy to carry’ box. It would be better if the box was made of very heavy metal with sharp, pointy edged which damaged your clothing.
  • It’s colourful. This is going to annoy all people who are not hippies – perfect!
  • No cheating possible. Damn. This speaks for itself.
  • Easy for all to ‘see’ the outcome. I suggest playing it in a sealed room, so that the outcome is utterly ambiguous, and all parties can argue that they were in fact the rightful winner.

So there you have it. Can we all agree to disagree now… please?
